Driving 500 Miles in Mexico
We're driving from Guaymas to Mazatlan in this video, and we learn a lot about driving in Mexico during this 500 mile/750 kilometer road trip. The drive starts off peaceful enough. We learn how to watch out for the massive speed bumps that Mexico is famous for, and start recognizing all the individual vendors that greet us with homemade snacks at every speed bump. Then, without warning, we met some of the most assertive "entrepreneurs" we've ever encountered on our travels. It turns out, traveling by car has given people a whole new menu of services to offer us while we're on the road. We were really taken aback by by these kids, and Evie hated them coming into our space, but we're better prepared to deal with these situations in the future now.
Another challenge we're facing as we drive through Mexico with a dog is finding places to take Evie out to play and use the washroom. Street dogs are very common here, and we're still getting our bearings with how to ensure Evie is safe around street dogs while still being able to do dog-things. All small grassy patches and tiny parks have become our best friend as we find ways to let Evie get her energy out during these long driving days.
On the final day of this road trip to Mazatlan, we bring you along for a gas up at a full-service Mexican gas station, and show you our new best friend - Oxxo. Finding good gas stations, convenience stores, and washrooms have become very important on this drive to Central America, and Mexico has some great options for these! Unfortunately, what Mexico doesn't have so far are good roads, and we are constantly dodging pot holes, people, speed bumps, and animals. We cover a lot less distance each day than we did when we were driving through Canada and the USA, but there's never a dull moment!
We got so lucky with an epic beach visit just before arriving into Mazatlan. We wanted a spot to let Evie off leash and enjoy chasing the ball, and man did Mexico deliver! A huge benefit of having our own vehicle is getting to discover hidden gems like this beach. We just saw a road on Google maps that seemed to lead to the beach, and we ended up in paradise! The car has a few new scratches, but we bought a 2008 for a reason 😉
After 9 long days of driving, we finally arrive in Mazatlan!!! This is our first proper stop on this road trip to Central America, and we are so excited to tuck into Mexico properly once we've gotten settled. In the next video, we'll finally be off the road and exploring Mazatlan. We hope to see you there!

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico and in March 2021, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and began traveling the world! We never thought we'd be making travel vlogs on UA-cam, but after realizing that we had a unique opportunity to share our adventure and make the world feel more familiar and inviting to anyone watching, we took the leap and picked up the camera! We hope our videos show how wonderful, delicious, and friendly the world can be.

3 things #1use wool wash for all your clothing, all the tech stuff will last longer. Not Woolite. You often don't need to rinse if you buy one of the good ones. If you can't find it at a regular grocery store, try a knitting shop or craft store. #2 Learn to Darn. It is important just like being able to sew on a button. #3 In Italy you have to carry your passport all the time, you will get fined if you don't have it on you.

Such a good idea! Going with the flow with travel definitely isn't for everyone, and that's okay! I think if we were going on a holiday we would book every day specifically just like we used to. It's just this no-end-date travel that allows us to feel free enough to roll with the punches and see where life takes us 😀

So far in our experience between Canada/USA/Mexico, we have found it to be very easy to bring the dog with us. I think going back in the reverse might require more paperwork though. Thankfully, Mexico has a low rabies rate in dogs, so they aren't on the USA's high-risk list. If you travel to a high-risk rabies country (like Guatemala for example), then I know getting back into the USA is much more difficult

The overhanging wires are left that way... because the buildings are delicate and they cannot break the pavements or dig it up ... the foundation might crumble... neither can they drill holes on the buildings... it is a living protected site. The alleys were made tight for security from invaders. There are good guides available. Next time take a guide who can tell you about the world within the worlds and labyrinth of alleys.

I know that people warning you about the safety of Mexico might be annoying but may just be warranted given what happened to the 2 Aussie surfing brothers and their American friend recently in Baja. All 3 were shot in the head and killed by thieves trying to steal the wheels off of their car while they were camping. Now I realise is not a common thing to happen, all I am saying is that you should not get too complacent and believe Mexico is totally safe. This comment is meant with love so please don’t take it the wrong way ❤

We have been driving our Florida plated Jeep all through Mexico for over two years. We crossed with our dog as well and no one asked to see her vet records. It's ok to travel on the "libre" or free roads we have many times. Do not drive at night it is unsafe. Have your camera on for police interactions and don't pay the "mordidas" let them know that you know your paperwork is correct and pretend you don't understand anything else they are saying. We have traveled to over 90 pueblos magicos in 28 states it is a beautiful country with amazing people!
